A deductible is a specific dollar amount that the car insurance will deny before they start paying for your treatment.
So say your have $1000 deductible. As the insurance company receives bills from all your medical providers like your doctor, massage, physical therapy etc, they will deny the first $1000 in bills they receive. They apply the deductible in the order of the date that the bill is received (not the date the treatment was done). Ror example, even if you had a expensive MRI that would meet your entire deductible, if they haven’t gotten the bill yet, it will not count towards your deductible.
Some polices have 2 separate deductibles, one for damage to your car, and one for your medical treatment. The one for your medical treatment is called the PIP deductible.
If you have a PIP deductible, the amount will be specified by your insurance policy. We will ask your car insurance company if you have a PIP deductible and how much it is; but sometimes they will not release that information to us. You may have to call yourself.
If any part of your bill is denied by your car insurance company, you are responsible to pay it. In this case we can often offer a reduction, please ask.
Some people’s health insurance will cover certain medical payments that are denied by the car insurance, but they will NOT do this for the massage treatment with our therapists.
In Hawaii, the deductible does not apply to medical treatment in the first 72 hours after the accident. So if you have an ambulance ride and emergency room visit on the day of the accident, the deductible will not be affected.
